Design Philosophy

‘Simplicity is our guide’. Running through every aspect of The Melgrano’s conception, design, and development is the core belief that simplicity presents both the highest form of art as well as the purest form of functionality.

Where complexity can be used to mask flaws or drown out mistakes, a simple design leaves everything exposed. A crooked line, or a poorly chosen material become glaringly obvious. There is a mastery required to achieve simplicity, one that demands a deep understanding of proportion, light, materials, and spatial relationships. In design and architecture this translates to meticulous detailing, careful consideration of construction techniques, and a profound understanding of how people interact with space.

A primary consideration for the design was that the architecture should not exist in a vacuum. It should respond to its surroundings, climate, and cultural context. This was key for the team, to integrate the building seamlessly into its environment while still maintaining its unique identity.
